About the GBYO

Now in their thirty-third season, the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestras provide student musicians with a thorough classical music and orchestral education while offering audiences concerts of music ranging from well-loved symphonies to cutting edge contemporary works. 

Four orchestral ensembles comprise the GBYO, the advanced symphonic Youth Orchestra, the intermediate-level Concert Orchestra, and the beginning-level Sinfonia and Sinfonietta — along with the BRIDGES program which offers beginning string instruction to students in Baltimore City public schools.   The GBYO are Ensembles-in-Residence at Loyola University in Maryland.

Bridges Program

Now in its fourth year, the Bridges Program provides string instruments, twice-weekly small-group lessons, and a weekend orchestra experience for children in Baltimore City. Visit the Bridges Program page to read more — and to watch a video — about this exciting and inspiring program.

The GBYO is supported in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, and by an operating grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive.
